A moonbird, unfeathered

For Jennie

The curve of a fish belly and back

two lips and eyes

the non-existent ears

are what you need

to live.

It is no secret. You are known for it.

The curves of natures held tight to your belly button—

only the grass could explain it more fully.

We want to be happy so we laugh

draw circles and ducks and beavers together.

Owls on our backs.

We overlook the impossible

blue and green river from precarious positions.

You are hanging there.
