‘Our Marvelous Punishment’ is a series of large scale oil paintings I made between 2011-2012. The paintings took their inspiration from the last stanza in the poem "Voyage" by Tony Hoagland:

“The sea was no longer a metaphor.
The book was no longer a book.
That was the plot.
That was our marvelous punishment. “
