Our Marvelous Punishment is a series of large-scale oil paintings created between 2011 and 2012, inspired by the final stanza of Tony Hoagland’s poem “Voyage”:

The sea was no longer a metaphor.
The book was no longer a book.
That was the plot.
That was our marvelous punishment.
